Wool roving, glass beads, fabric, marker, November 2012. Body about 3" long, overall length about 6".

I've been trying to figure out ways to do fish fins for a few weeks. I didn't want to felt them, as I didn't want them to be opaque. Tulle was too transparent. Other sheer fabrics frayed too much on their own, and painting it made it too stiff and opaque. I finally got something to work, and although I'm still not completely satisfied it, I'm pleased enough to leave it alone. I have another idea I'll try another time, but that requires more materials!

He is suspended from a thread, which I edited out.

Edit 12-7-12: :O Well that was a nice surprise today! Thanks to *Gryffgirl and ^maytel for the DD!

Edit 2-18-13: He is for sale here!

Do you know if raw wool is available at Hobbylobby or Michael's, or some other store? I really would like to avoid ordering online if possible, and I've been wanting to try needle felting for quite some time now.
And do you know where I could get a felting needle?

There is limited availability at Michael's and Jo-Ann stores. They just sell little teeny packets, and I don't really like the texture of it much. I did the same thing, though, bought wool for the first experiment there. They also sell needles, but not in any variety; there are different shapes and gauges you get for different things, and I believe the ones they have are all the same thing. I did get a multi-needle tool there, though. You'll also need a foam pad or a brush (which they also sell, little ones).

Not sure if Hobby Lobby has it; there's not one anywhere convenient to me, so I've only ever been there a couple of times. Etsy is my main source for felting stuff.
